Subtitled “The Lake Below”, this dream-like song was written in 2015 after one magical night spent camping near a waterfall by Kootenay Lake, British Columbia. The ancient First Nations’ veneration for the endless life-giving cycle of water from sea to sky and back again is what underlies the lyrics.

The original ARC Studio recording was enhanced by Natalie Mason whose gorgeous viola weaves its way playfully between the words, like a meandering stream.

I closed my eyes to the sound of tumbling water
And fell asleep beside a chattering stream
And I was swept clean into a whirlpool
That carried me down, down, down to the lake below

Beyond an aisle of interlocking mountains
I watched the red sun sink behind the clouds
And I felt the chill at the edge of the blue-black water
Still icy cold with streams of melting snow

A salmon leapt into the claws of a diving eagle
Amidst the wailing of the loons along the shore
Oscillating ripples on the surface
Like radio waves put out by RKO

Then like the rain that rises from the ocean
To climb the wind from the foothills to the sky
I felt my spirit lift toward the mountain
To source the spring that flows from the summit’s eye

And where the glistening waters came together
Into a creek that pooled around the rocks
It wound its way between the twisted pine roots
And carried me down
